A 32CSM activist was arrested in Cork this morning. At 10.20am, on his way to work, he was accosted by three uniformed gardai on the pretence of carrying out a search of his person. After employing rough tactics during the search the activist was arrested for 'obstruction'. When placed in the squad car he remonstrated with the gardai wherein he was struck in the throat by the garda sergeant causing difficulty in breathing, all the while being handcuffed.

At the barracks another garda intervened to release his handcuffs having noticed the clear distress they were causing and the 'bluing' of his hands. He was then subject to a strip search before being released with severe bruising to his wrists. The same activist was subject to a previous assault by the armed response unit.

Cork 32CSM condemns outright this blatant political policing which we know is a direct response to our community activism against the scourge of drugs. That activism will continue irrespective of garda assaults and abuse of power against us.

A chairde, Ireland remains partitioned. Our sovereignty is still violated by Westminster and the cause of the conflict has yet to be resolved. As republicans our main focus must be on conflict resolution as a precursor to nation building. All our political instincts must be geared toward imaginative solutions which brings the armed conflict to a conclusion.

We have long pursued the objective of republican unity. We view this project as essential because as pragmatists we recognise our limitations. The Good Friday Agreement has coalesced the position of establishment nationalists and pro unionists against us. In so doing they have attempted to portray the conflict as resolved. Only effective political action can expose this fallacy. Republican unity would greatly enhance our effectiveness.

We are permitted to differ in our visions of what shape a sovereign Ireland could take. But we are not permitted to differ on the basic fact that the conflict must be resolved before any vision can take root. Dennis Spriggs and his comrades realised this also. The ideals of the Proclamation cannot proceed until the roadblock of partition is removed. This is our message to our republican comrades; let our energies be focussed on dismantling the roadblock first. Let our combined focus be concentrated on securing the only viable catalyst that can break the political hegemony on this island.

The thirtieth anniversary of the Hunger Strikes is upon us. And republican prisoners are still being brutalised and criminalised in British prisons. The impotence of the Micro Ministers in Stormont is shamefully exposed. And as the truth of 1981 unravels in a way which prevents certain elements having exclusive control over writing the history of that seminal event, our attentions must be focussed on those suffering now in the same manner as Bobby Sands and his comrades did.

What’s happening in Maghaberry Gaol is a deliberate political policy designed to criminalise our struggle. But it is also a human tragedy, involving families and communities fighting for basic dignity for their loved ones, even within their captivity. And this is where our pragmatism helps us to find a balance between the two. The prisoners themselves reached such a pragmatic solution only to find the authorities more than willing to renege on their responsibilities.

We see the so called Justice Minister in the Six Counties exposed as nothing more than a willing accomplice in this deplorable policy. These are the facts, the realities of what the prisoners are suffering and which we need to address. We will not barter political principle in return for what is rightfully due nor will we allow political obstinacy prevent a humanitarian resolution to be implemented. We call on all republicans to mobilise in support of the POW’s. Wherever there are republicans there must be a visible protest. As in 1981 this issue goes to the heart of our struggle. The British know this, as do establishment nationalists, whose deafening silence on the issue indicts them.

Volunteer Dennis Spriggs fought for a new Ireland; an Ireland whose sovereignty was the corner stone of its democracy. Self determination for the Irish people is the ultimate guarantor of personal liberty for all our people. It is an obscenity that Irish citizens in their own country have their liberty controlled by a British licence. Yet this is the reality of partition under the Good Friday Agreement. Those who advocate that this agreement represents a resolution to this conflict need to explain this. How is it that a British politician can arbitrarily decide that an Irish citizen, who has opposed their authority to do so, be committed to a British prison?

Marian Price has not altered her political convictions. She is now interned. Those who advocate that this agreement represents a resolution of the conflict need to explain this? The ideals of Marian Price and Denis Spriggs will not go away by imprisoning them. What the hunger strikers died for cannot be airbrushed out of the political narrative by historical revisionism. They died opposing British rule in Ireland. They died opposing their imprisonment. They died opposing efforts to criminalise them. They died opposing the conditions under which Marian and other republicans now find themselves.

The recent unrest demonstrates the failure of the normalisation policy. A so called peace accord based on a sectarian headcount is in itself a sectarian policy. Stormont is a sectarian regime. The RUC, despite its change in name, is a sectarian police force. Community divisions can only be resolved in a political context which provides an incentive for dialogue and engagement. This is absent under the current process. The Good Friday Agreement empowered unionists to say only one word, no. Aspirations to Irish unity are merely that, aspirations which the political establishment can dismiss as red herrings. The mindset behind this reasoning also reasons that kissing the backside of a British queen is a demonstration of a states maturity. This is what awaits the centenary of the 1916 Rising.

2016 offers an opportunity for the people of Ireland to engage in a national dialogue on the future constitutional status of the island. Republicans need to be at the forefront of this debate. By bringing a conflict resolution package to those who are desperate to claim the conflict is resolved we make it impossible for them to gloss over their abject betrayal of what 1916 represents.

Denis Spriggs died for the cause which we are the custodians of today. The greatest honour we can pay Denis, and all those who gave their lives for Irish freedom, is to establish a sovereign Ireland in which its people can freely decide the shape and fabric of its society. Working together is the least we can do. Comrades let us work together now.

Vol Hugh Hehir Remembered

Hugh Hehir was born on 21st November 1950, the third eldest of seven children. A plumber by trade he was ploiticised during the Civil Rights period in 1968 and joined the IRA in the aftermath of the August pogroms of 1969.

Hughie operated in many parts of the border area and knew other Volunteers from the 26 Counties who had also none north, such as Tony Ahern and Dermot Crowley from Cork.
In early 1974 he was arrested in Belfast's New Lodge Road area along with Joe Doherty and charged with possession of explosives and IRA membership. While in Crumlin Road jail on remand, he and Joe attempted escape but were caught. He served his sentence in the cages of Long Kesh where he made many friends and when he was released in November 1979 he immediately reported back to the IRA.

Hughie lived in Clarecastle, Co. Clare with his wife Anne and their three children, Hugh, Seán and Fiona. Their other daughter Tara died in a car accident four years before Hugh was killed at 3 years of age.

On Friday 6th May 1988 Hugh was shot by a member of the Gardaí while on Active Service. He was taken to Ennis General Hospital before being transferred to Cork General Hospital where he died. Hughie is buried in Cnoc an Claire cemetary, Co. Clare

Cork 32CSM Condemn Cynical Arrests

Cork 32 County Sovereignty Movement condemns the cynical operation targeting so called ‘dissident republicans’ in Cork City this morning. Following the new Garda Commissioner’s statement that his operational budget was being cut, and his assertion that funds would be available for specific operations, it is abundantly clear where his priorities lay. Tackling the scourge of drug dealing takes second place to harassing republicans who are fighting this scourge at the coalface.

Whilst their Fianna Fáil overseers are convulsed with internal backstabbing and ladder climbing these arrests in Cork provide a timely distraction from the farce in Leinster House. But just as the people are beginning to see the true, inept and corrupt nature of the political establishment we call on the people of Cork to see through these cynical arrests also. Our fight against the scourge of drugs will continue as will our fight for a united, sovereign Ireland and the creation of a body politic reflective of the true values of republicanism.

We commend our activists for their diligence and hard work in attempting to secure the integrity of our national sovereignty. We applaud the efforts of others who struggle likewise under their own chosen banner. We send New Year greetings to republican POW’s and their families and rededicate ourselves to their service.

2010 was a year which laid bare the harsh realities of our struggle. In protest against the degradation of strip searching and its vindictive use republican POW’s embarked on a series of actions in protest against the Stormont’s regime’s deliberate policy of attacking republican prisoners. Matched on the outside by regular vigils and marches the political opposition which was generated forced the authorities into negotiations.

With the use of agreed independent arbiters an agreement was reached to the satisfaction of all. However the authorities have resumed their original policy of using strip searching to degrade the prisoners. This was a political decision which has implications for all republicans. An attack on one prisoner is an attack on all prisoners and demands a unified response from all republican organisations. Our resolve must at least match that of the prisoners if we are to successfully confront Stormont’s prison policy.

The recent disclosure of State papers clearly shows that the issue of republican prisoners was a cornerstone in British strategy to undermine our struggle. They clearly show how Dublin also collaborated to achieve the same end. This collaboration now has an added dimension in that former comrades are now part of the British establishment in Ireland. That establishment takes it for granted that its members collaborate in the wider British interest. We openly call on the PSF leadership to come clean and to stop talking out of both sides of their mouths. It is your regime which is inflicting this degradation on republican prisoners. Is this your so called peaceful alternative to Irish unity? It is your actions that define you, not your words, overt or otherwise.

2010 also witnessed seismic events in economic terms. Fianna Fáil’s self serving economics led the State to bankruptcy. It bailed out bankers and developers and levied the bill on ordinary citizens. They privatised profits and socialised losses. They surrendered their so called sovereignty to the International Monetary Fund all the while denying it in drunken interviews to the people. But the real issue for republicans and socialists is that our protests failed to impact on events. The crisis in capitalism, which should have opened up so many opportunities for our cause, was duly addressed by capitalism itself. This is the reality we must face and we must face it pragmatically.

2011 must be a year of introspection and innovation. We must look at ourselves and address our failings. What went before has reached its zenith. We need to explore and devise new ways of getting our message across. We need to be more innovative in our protests. We can no longer be satisfied that our protests simply happen: they must also have meaningful effect.

We address young republicans everywhere; this is your time, it is your era, your society, your technological age, you need to lead the way on this front. Irish society has evolved a new language in which it communicates with itself and we need to learn it. Republicanism needs your ideas to advance. Our communities have the expectation of new initiatives to assist them. We need to demonstrate to our people that our aims are relevant to their everyday lives and represent an enrichment of society.

The continued violation of our national sovereignty has led to the inevitable consequence of armed struggle. Those who are engaging in military operations against British occupation have every right to do so, as they always had throughout our history. The function of the Sovereignty Movement is not to question this right nor question the merits of invoking it but to address the cause which makes it inevitable. This we will continue to do in whatever way we deem to be progressive. Treating the Irish Republican Army as a militia is a deeply flawed approach. Predicating a peace strategy on the exclusion of Irish national rights is doomed to failure.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement reaffirms our commitment to seeking an end to British Parliamentary activity in our country. The divisions amongst our people can only begin to be resolved when Westminster and its many agendas are finally removed.

Friends Comrades welcome, and welcome back again to this most historic place, for it was here on this very day the 12th of December, 90 years ago during the war of Independence that the house of the Delaney Brothers was raided by members of what was then the Royal Irish Constabulary or R.I.C as they were better known. They were both dragged out and brutally shot down, Jeremiah died instantly and Corneilius died some days later in the Mercy Hospital Cork from the wounds received.

We as Republicans have been fighting their battle ever since, culminating in the sell out of this states financial Sovereignty by the self claimed Republican Party in Leinster House. It is not true Republicans that should be incarcerated in Portlaoise Prison but the liars, wasters and cheats who are presently ensconced in Kildare Street.

The magnitude of the sell-out by the Dublin Government is best viewed from the graves of our patriot dead. The magnitude of the sacrifice by the men and women of no property in pursuit of Irish freedom is the perfect counterpoint.

The Delaney brothers are but two of our patriot dead and standing here demands that we ask: For what died the sons of Roisin?

In trying to answer for the sacrifice of Roisin’s children we must not allow ourselves to fall into a revisionist trap. From the outset let us make one thing clear; it’s not just the behaviour of the Dublin Government which is an affront to the Proclamation but its very existence also. Jeremiah and Con, along with their comrades, did not fight for a partitioned Ireland, good, bad or indifferent, but for a free and sovereign Ireland for all the people of the thirty two counties.

The actions of the Dublin government are an affront to its citizens, to its provenance, to those who believed in the stepping stone theory. For ninety years later the state has merely stepped back into the British and European imperial exchequer.

Throughout those ninety years it has murdered, executed and imprisoned fellow Irish people who dared to question its right to exist. It has colluded with foreign powers to extradite Irish people to foreign jails. Only recently, whilst it was selling its soul to the bankers of Europe, an Irish citizen, Kieron Doran, was brought under armed guard to an airport and handed over to French authorities for extradition. His crime, as they saw it, was the upholding of the Proclamation. For what died the sons of Roisin?

Freedom is a beginning; it is not an end. All those clamouring for change need to heed this. There can be no change unless freedom is achieved. Freedom from partition, freedom from the servitude of capitalism, freedom from the West Brit revisionists and freedom from the gombeen political class that brought their parliament back to Lloyd George’s table.

As republicans we need to speak as plainly as the Delaney brothers acted. We need to say to the one hundred thousand who marched in Dublin that Roisin does not stop at the border. That Roisin demands that all her children be cherished equally. That she demands that the Proclamation be the foundation stone of the Irish nation.

Partition and the Proclamation cannot be reconciled with each other. Capitalist exploitation cannot be reconciled with social justice. The horse trading of our natural resources cannot be reconciled with the well being of the Irish people. All this the Dublin government has tried to do in a desperate bid to paint over the rust of its abject failure.

The time has long passed for tinkering with partition. Both states on either side of the border have failed. Hope and history can only rhyme when partition is finally obliterated from our country. When Pearse stood in front of the GPO he offered a clear choice to our people; to be Irish you must first fight for her freedom, if not, you can die on the Somme in a uniform which will not honour your death. That choice remains with us today; fight for our freedom or capitulate and die in the financial Somme’s of Europe.

We did not hear this message outside the GPO last Saturday. The Trade Union leadership allowed themselves to be subsumed into the mire of Free State politics. They had nothing to say to the citizens who gathered to hear them. If the workers of Ireland want change they must make these changes themselves. They must be their own leadership and deploy their influence. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement have called for a National Strike throughout the 32 counties. Both states need to be closed down so that the clarity of what is truly required for change can be made apparent.

Jeremiah and Con Delaney gave their lives as an act of clarity and sacrifice. Kieron Doran and countless other republicans today are doing likewise. For what died the sons of Roisin?

No Extradition Of Kieron Doran

On the 5th of November, after an 8 month battle Republican prisoner Kieron Doran lost his high court challenge to prevent his extradition to France.
Tried and sentenced in his absence to 4 years imprisonment, for conspiracy to commit terrorist offences, Kieron was not notified he was on trial, or given the opportunity to defend himself.
His and Gary’s only crime was to have travelled to France on a holiday in 2003.
From the outset of the trial it was made clear there was direct involvement by British intelligence agency MI5 in the trial, and that it was falsely alleged the men had links to an arms cache which was discovered in Brittany.
In the absence of any evidence physical, or otherwise to support this claim, kieron and his co accused Gary Roche where sentenced on the word of a special branch officer, who was flown in and who gave uncorroborated and false evidence that both men where members of the IRA whilst in France.
This evidence was amazingly accepted; despite the fact an Irish court had previously ruled it not to be the case. The trial was described by French lawyers as a political show trial. Kieron was arrested in January of this year and imprisoned in Portlaoise Jail pending a high court challenge against his extradition.
In was explained to Kieron at the outset of the Irish trial, that he was to be extradited on a European arrest warrant, and on a ticked box offence, which would overrule any Irish, constitutional, or family laws which would have prevented his surrender.
It was basically rendition, as opposed to extradition.
What transpired in the Irish high court over the following months was tantamount to throwing Kieron’s constitutional rights out the window, in order to facilitate MI5.

Circumstances in which surrender is prohibited

• Under Irish law a citizen cannot be extradited for an offence which does not correspond to an offence under Irish law, despite this being the case.
THIS WAS OVERRULED.
• Under family law it sates that if the extradition of an Irish citizen will have a disproportionate effect on his/her family they cannot be surrendered.
Despite Kieron being married with seven children, all under the age of 12, and being the sole provider for them.
THIS WAS OVERRULED.
• Where final judgement has already been given in Ireland or another Member State for the offence, despite this being the case.
THIS WAS OVERRULED.
• After being informed he could not win the case, here or in France, and after resigning himself to this fact, Kieron applied, which is his right under European law, to serve the sentence here close to his family.
THIS WAS REFUSED BY THE MINISTER FOR JUSTICE.
• Kieron applied for leave to appeal these blatant contraventions of his Irish and human rights
THIS WAS REFUSED
Once extradited, Kieron will be jailed in a French prison system, recently described by the council of European rights commissioner, as "unacceptable" overcrowded, and dilapidated. He will have no phone contact whatsoever with his family, and limited access to visits. This is one of the worst cases of State persecution of an Irish republican, to grace the courts, and we would implore people republican or otherwise to highlight this case, however they possibly can.

COUNCIL OF EUROPE AGAIN SLAMS FRENCH PRISON CONDITIONS

STRASBOURG, (AFP) - The Council of Europe's human rights commissioner slammed Thursday as "unacceptable" conditions in France's overcrowded and dilapidated jails, where some 90 inmates have committed suicide this year.

Thomas Hammarberg said in the latest of a string of criticisms by the pan-European watchdog that the high level of suicides in French prisons is "a symptom of the structural deficiencies in the penitentiary system."

He singled out "the unacceptable living conditions faced by many detainees, who have to cope with overcrowding, lack of privacy, dilapidated facilities and substandard hygiene."

Hammarberg also said he was concerned by the harsh treatment of defendants and inmates by the authorities and the courts, including pre-trial detention on the basis of the risk of danger.

"Dangerousness, on the basis of which preventive detention is ordered, is not a clear legal or scientific concept," he said.

Such practices "must remain the last resort, and other recidivism prevention measures should be applied in the first instance."

He also attacked recent French measures to check youth crime, saying "the problem of juvenile delinquency will not be solved by imposing harsher penalties."

"A successful policy should entail measures facilitating prevention, rehabilitation and the social integration of young people in difficulty," he said.

Regarding France's policies on illegal immigration, he said the fixing of quotas for repatriation of migrants lacking residence papers, "raises serious human rights concerns."

Hammarberg criticised in particular arrests of immigrants outside schools their children attend or at regional government office while they seek to regularise their position.

Hammarberg's report, following a visit to France in May, is the latest in a series of such attacks by the pan-European rights watchdog, which charges that the treatment of French convicts is inhumane and degrading.

There are currently more than 63,000 prisoners in France held in cells built for 51,000.

Union leaders accuse Justice Minister Rachida Dati of overloading the nation's prison system with her tough-on-crime approach while failing to strengthen efforts at rehabilitation.

The International Observatory of Prisons (OIP), another watchdog group, also says France needs to change its approach.

The justice ministry says it is adding more than 1,000 jobs in the prison system over the next year and is drafting a bill to improve conditions.

32 CSM Interview With Cork Independent

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement (32CSM) is to vote on whether it will publish a name and shame list of drug dealers in Cork on behalf of the Real IRA, the Cork chairman told the Cork Independent this week. John Murphy from Cork City said the 32CSM would be voting on the issue at an upcoming meeting.

In September 2009, 32CSM issued a death threat statement to drug dealers in Cork City on behalf of Óglaigh na hÉireann, which is part of the Real IRA.

Last month, the Real IRA claimed responsibility for the murders of Cork drug dealers Kieran O'Flynn in 2001 and Gerard Staunton earlier this year, both of which are still under investigation.

Murphy said it was inevitable that armed republicans would take action against drug dealers.

“I don’t think it’s a question of whether the 32CSM supports the execution of drug dealers by the RIRA but, more or less, to recognise that it is inevitable that the likes of armed republicans will eventually take action against that part of our society….borne out of frustration with the Garda Siochána who have failed miserably to tackle this issue, despite being a product of this multi billion-euro economy.”

He said the statement was “sifted through to the 32CSM through the republican network” but said the Cumann has, in the past, voted not to carry some messages from the RIRA.

“But on this issue, because we all felt so strong…most of our members are from lower or working class areas, we on a day-to-day basis see the misery that has been inflicted on the city by drug dealing criminals and basically, we felt that if this would help, we would run with it.”

Mr Murphy said the provisional movement, “which was the original republican movement at one time, has led a whole generation of republicans down the wrong track.”

Murphy denies that the group are political apologists for the Real IRA. Security sources also regard 32CSM as the Real IRA’s political wing, a claim the group denies.

“As far as political apologists – we certainly make no apology for what we believe. Personally, I’m not comfortable with violence. The 32CSM stands alone. We are democratically run and elected organisation, independent of any other organisation, republican or otherwise,” he added.

“Reading the press, we have been called microscopic groups, miniscule, so on and so forth. Yet, at every press conference, (Garda Commissioner) Fachtna Murphy refers to dissident republicans as top of the agenda.”

The group has not just agreed to issue death threats on behalf of Óglaigh na hÉireann, the RIRA militia linked to the Omagh bombing. Murphy claims it is now tackling crime.

“These (issues) range from gangs of youths terrorising neighbourhoods, parents seeking help for their sons and daughters who may have a drug addiction, women suffering from domestic abuse and a wide variety of anti-social behaviour in general.”

Visible

He said the dissident movement had been visible since its inception.

“We have been visible with our position of national sovereignty from day one in 1996 and formally since 1997. There is a difference between being visible and having the mainstream media ignore you,” he said.

The movement fundraises in the city for the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association (IRPWA).

“The 32CSM doesn’t need much money to operate but the majority of our funds are channelled through the IRPWA.”

According to the Cork chairman, there are around 20 members in Cork City, who attend the weekly Cumann meetings.

“In Cork City, there is a good mixture of experienced republicans, former members of Sinn Féin and new young members coming along. A lot of young members, and our youngest is 19, would be people lucky to have not gotten swallowed up by drugs culture which sweeps through our city.”

He denied that involvement with the movement was damaging or dangerous for vulnerable youths.

Violence

“All our young members have the support of their families. That is made clear to them when they are joining… to make their family aware of because as republicans… we do suffer at the hands of Special Branch harassment,” said Murphy (30), who joined 32CSM when he was 19 after the Good Friday Agreement was implemented.

“Young republicans are coming more into the fore as was also seen outside the Department of Finance recently, where members of 32CSM were at the front line of protests.”

He pointed out that there are also members in West Cork and throughout the county.

“If we wanted, we could have a Cumann of 100 in Cork but we are fairly strict with membership.”

He said he is personally averse to violence.

“I have never been involved in any shape of violence, especially political violence, but obviously, if I though there was a peaceful strategy which protected the right of the Irish people, which is national initially, national sovereignty. 32CSM has never shied away from talks,” he said.

Chief Superintendent Mick Finn was not available to comment at the time of going to press.

These actions are welcomed by communities who are suffering at the hands of drug dealers.Recently, a number of newspapers have run stories claiming that the
IRA was involved in drugs and prostitution and that members of the Dublin Brigade had been stood down. The stories are lies.

Subsequently, the IRA sent a statement to the Irish Star Newspaper claiming responsibility for the execution of numerous drug dealers. The Star refused to carry the statement but instead carried statements from a Dublin drugs gang styling itself the "Criminal Action Force" which threatened republicans.

The Star newspaper was raided by the Free State Special Branch but nothing was reported in any newspaper. We invite people to analyse these facts for themselves and determine who benefits from this policy of censorship and misinformation.

In Response to Recent Sensationalist Media Articles:

The leadership of the IRA wish to clarify our position on these claims: The IRA have never taken money from criminals and then allowed them to continue to operate, we have in fact relieved them of their finances and weaponry then closed down their operations. Allegations have been made that the IRA extorted a large amount of money from drug dealers and criminals. Anyone with evidence to support these claims should come forward immediately.

The leadership of the IRA have never sanctioned such actions and anyone using our name to tax drug dealers and criminals will be executed. In fact the only organisations in Ireland that take money from criminals and allows them to operate are state agencies, on both sides of the border, who take their assets and allow them to carry on their poison trade.

The IRA postion on drug dealers is clear, they deal death to our communities. We deal with them. Some examples are: Matthew Burns, Kieran Flynn, Jason Eagan, Colly Owens, Geradr Staunton, Kieran Doherty,and Sean Winters, among others.

To those who believe they can escape the reach of the republican movement, we have also executed drug dealers on the continent who believed they were safe, having fled the country. We have crippled, maimed and exiled numerous others.

Anyone caught up in the world of criminality, drug dealing, or issuing threats to republicans should come forward and admit their involvement now. Anyone who does not avail of this opportunity will face the inevitable consequences.

Those who wish to take on the republican movement should realise this. These parasites are members of a gang, the IRA are members of a disciplined army with experience of war.

In last weeks edition of the Cork Independent, Cllr Chris O' Leary of Sinn Fein called for “a charter of rights for tenants" who are housed by Cork City Council. There is much merit in this proposal but Cllr O' Leary’s attention needs to be drawn to a different view expressed within his party. As a new member of Sinn Fein (having spent years with the Green Party) Cllr O' Leary should focus on their inconsistency in policy regarding their repeated claim of being an all Ireland party.

Cllr O Learys counterpart in the occupied 6 counties, Sinn Fein MLA Caral Ni Chuilin, has been busy urging the Housing Executive to evict any tenant in Belfast who has been identified as being involved in resistance to forced sectarian marches. On July 12th this year, nationalist residents in the Ardoyne area of Belfast staged a peaceful sit down protest against the Orange Order march through their area which triumphantly celebrates sectarian murder.

The protest remained peaceful until the RUC/PSNI started beating nationalists and started firing rubber bullets at head height. This provoked the youth of the area to the defence of their fathers, mothers and grandparents and the RUC/PSNI got their wish of confrontation with nationalists.

Gerry Kelly was also quick to encourage evictions on this basis. Ironically in 1997 following intense rioting in the same area around the same date, Gerry Kelly spoke out and said “it is clear that the only thing the Brits understand is Force". Sinn Fein has yet again failed the nationalist people living in "flash points" who they claim to represent and have left genuine republicans to pick up the pieces time after time.

We hope that Sinn Fein correct this inconsistency between areas north and south of the border and be true to their slogan of “An Ireland of Equals”!

Cork 32CSM Protest At British Warship

Last week the Cork 32CSM staged a 3 day protest at Cork harbour in response to the presence of a British warship. The general acceptance by the public to these visits was not unusual but several other things stood out as outrageous to Republicans.
The naval vessel enjoyed 24 hour protection from between 8-12 armed detectives and another 4-6 uniformed Garda, at the expense of the Free State tax payer. The Free State navy also patrolled the waters in a small vessel carrying 2-3 personnel wearing balaclavas but flying no tri-colour while the foreign vessel they were protecting had no qualms in flying Union Jacks and St. Georges cross!

Another incident also stood out and can only be described as appalling, where members of the 32CSM withnessed a Cork based detective sergeant board the British warship, shake hands with several crew members and spent nearly an hour socialising on the ship. The same detective is infamous for his harrasment and intimidation tactics on republicans and heads up a squad of detectives who call themselves " crime specialists". When a cumann member later informed him that his actions were a disgrace and that he should be ashamed, his reply was both honest and typical when he replied " I don't give a sh*t who pays me my few bob."

As if all this wasn't bad enough, a large Free-State naval vessel entered the harbour and the captain of this ship came out on deck and saluted the British vessel as it passed! A British sailor was then taken from the ship on Wednesday and brought to Cork District Court where he was charged with a vicious drunken assault on a female Garda the night before. This is the thanks they get for "protecting" the same sailor from a peacefull protest staged by republicans!

We have seen a concentrated effort in the Occupied 6 Counties by administrators of British rule to set in a "normalistaion" procedure but from what republicans withnessed in Cork last week it would appear their counter parts in the Free State are just as eager to follow suit.

Having said this, the 32 CSM in Cork are as determined as ever and will continue to be a thorn in the side of those who wish to collaborate with British armed forces and will continue to highlight the illegal presence of foreign forces on Irish soil.
The Cork 32CSM would also like to pay tribute to our comrades in Dublin who led from the front in protest at Tony Blair's book signing and ensured that he was left under no illusion that there is still very strong republican resistance on our island.

In recent weeks the public have brought it to the attention of the Cork 32CSM, that the homeless and needy were all but abandoned by their government during our coldest winter in half a decade. We responded to this by starting a "food run" which involves members of the Cumann distributing food parcels to Corks homeless in the City. We have been astounded by the positive response from the recipients who are very greatful. Their stories are compelling and their concerns frightening. The 32CSM now call on our paid councilors to address this issue as a matter of urgency when they sit at their next meeting in the City Hall which is ironically very close to a well known gathering point for the homeless. Organisations such as the Simon Community carry out excellent work but due to the "recession" and the knock on effect of more people losing their homes, they find themselves overstretched and cannot cope with the numbers looking for accomodation each night. If any Supermarket, shop or business would like to contribute in any way to our campaign, we would ask them to contact us as at present our "food run" is being funded out of cumann members own pockets.
The Cork 32CSM will continue to use our influence wherever and whenever it can to contribute to our communities and strive to establish a better society.

A chairde, fellow republicans, on behalf of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement I welcome you all here today.

The people are the nation. As republicans concerned with the welfare of our nation we are by default concerned with the welfare of our people. We continue to strive for their national rights so that the full potential of our people’s well being can be realised. These rights continue to be denied. Around this denial a malignant politics has evolved which feeds off the divisions which partition has created. It needs partition to preserve its powerbase which explains why they are implacable opponents of Irish unity. The reunification of our country is the panacea to the ills they help to fester.

Pearse and Connolly knew this well. That is why they were implacable opponents of Home Rule. They knew well that Home Rule was the framework within which the pro British elements in Irish society would thrive. Home Rule could not bring the changes required for the true liberation of the people. It represented another layer of British rule, soaked in the blood of the fodder on the Somme. Those who routinely condemn the physical force tradition should bear in mind this salient fact; constitutional nationalism urged fifty thousand Irishmen to their deaths on the promise of Home Rule, a promise which was broken under the threat of unionist violence. That is the nature of British Rule in Ireland and that is the nature of those who administer it on her behalf.

1916 was all about choices. It remains so today. In 1916 The Proclamation declared a Republic and asked the Irish people to choose between sovereignty or occupation. Those who took up arms vowed to defend their right to choose against British arms determined to deny that choice. When we made our choice our leaders were executed, our government declared illegal and our country was partitioned. The choice that faces us now is this; have we as a sovereign people the inalienable right to self determination or, is the British will to prevail, that we do not have such a right and that partition is legitimate? You cannot have it both ways, you cannot stand on the principles of the Proclamation and administer British rule at the same time. You must choose one or the other. We have made our choice and are deeply committed to defending it.

The Good Friday Agreement does not address the issue of Irish national sovereignty. Those who signed that agreement had already accepted that such sovereignty does not exist. What they accepted was the absolute right of the British Parliament to pass Parliamentary Acts to determine
the governance over part of Ireland. This is what Wolfe Tone rejected, as did Emmet and Lalor, Davis and Mitchell, all the Fenians, the Gaelic Movement, Thomas Clarke and the other Signatories, the people in 1918, the first and second Daileanna, Tom Barry and Liam Lynch, Russell and McCaughey, South and O’Hanlon, Drumm and Sands, Hughes and McLoughlin and countless others. What those in Stormont call us they call these also.

Stormont is not a new beginning. Stormont is a product of the conflict not being resolved. Legitimising partition to end partition has failed. The hysterical abuse being directed at us from those sitting in Stormont confirms this fact. If they call us traitors they call the Seven Signatories traitors also. It’s a language we’ve heard before when deValera brought over the Englishman. Renaming Stormont as the Assembly or the RUC as the PSNI is the same dialect only spoken by different people.

Our great patriots throughout our history have striven to reach a balance between our people’s national rights and their community and individual rights. Lalor and Connolly contended that the struggle for one right is the struggle for all rights. They were both correct. Republicanism cannot exist in an ivory tower. We cannot be detached from the people we claim to represent. But neither can we be all things to all men. This is the balance we need to achieve. We need to be clear about our political actions and we need to be clear to our people why we engage in such actions.

1916 brought clarity to the political debate. If we arm ourselves with this clarity we can neither stray or be deflected from the political path to Irish freedom. The Proclamation is an inclusive document; it’s relevant to all sections of our people. To cherish all of the children of the nation equally begins now. This includes protecting them and the communities they live in. We do not have the resources of a state to address all of their problems but we will stand in the frontline and confront those who use poison and violence against our people. This scourge is the source of many social ills and our resolve will not be deflected by the condemnations of those who are better placed to deal with it, but choose not to.

Our movement is growing, our message is spreading. We know this because our opponents are forced to talk about us. In time they will have to talk to us and Irish sovereignty will be firmly on the table. They have tried to ignore us and have failed. They have tried to marginalise us and have failed. They are trying to criminalise us and they will fail in this also. We are bringing the Proclamation to our people, into our communities, and showing them that there is another way. They don’t need to be prisoners to drug barons and developers, bankers and parish pump politicians. What they fought for in 1916 we fight for today and with the empowerment of our communities we will achieve what is rightfully ours, a sovereign republic for all our people.

Garda Harassment Intensifies

Garda harassment of republicans in Cork city has intensified in recent weeks in response to the growth of the republican base in the county. Republicans are being followed as they collect their children from school, drop their partners or wives to work and the " Emergency Response Unit " is stopping and searching individuals in broad daylight. This is done at the behest of the Free State government as drug dealers, convicted paedophiles, rapists and car thiefs seem to operate freely at will with little or no intervention from the Gardai. These attempts to intimidate and criminalise republicans is no surprise as it is often republican actions that highlight the Free State forces failure to offer appropriate services to the public. This was the case recently when the I.R.A. executed an infamous convicted drug dealer following a host of complaints to them from the public who felt abandoned by the Gardai.

The most recent incident of harrasment occured on Thursday night 18-03-10, when members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement were out collecting on behalf of the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association which was well advertised on the collection boxes. Members of the Special Branch stopped the republicans, took their names and addresses and confiscated both boxes and money on the grounds that they were collecting for " an illegal organisation ". It is common knowledge that neither the I.R.P.W.A. nor the 32CSM are illegal on this island. This is further proof that the Gardai, who themselves are increasingly coming under scrutiny for corruption and crime, can abuse their power as their fears mount arising from the steps forward being taken nationwide by the Republican Movement.The Cork cumann of the 32CSM are dedicated to the republican cause and recent raids and harassment tactics have only strengthened our resolve and commitment.

We send solidarity greetings to our friend and comrade Gary Donnelly in Derry who successfully resisted attempts by Crown Forces and Security Agencies to crminalise him. We extend these greetings to all our imprisoned comrades and activists throughout the country.

32CSM slam Garda’s ‘disingenuous’ concern over drugs issue.

The 32 CSM wish to contrast the actions of Garda Detectives and Special Branch in Cork city on 9/02/2010 and their complete lack of activity in dealing with the drugs issue in the city prior to their raids on republicans.

It is reported that up to 60 detectives raided the homes of republicans (including members of the 32CSM) across Cork city in response to the execution of a major drug dealer in the city by the IRA.

This show of strength by the state against republican separatists contrasts noticeably with the complete lack of any state presence in the area over a long period of time to deal with the issues that republicans had to address on behalf of the community.

The importation and distribution of hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine has been allowed to decimate working class communities across the city and indeed the nation yet it was only when republicans stepped in to defend those communities that the state started to show concern about the issue, this concern is disingenuous. The object of their concern is not the drugs issue but rather the issue of republicans growing and gaining further support in the area, this shameful behaviour by the state has not been lost on the people of Cork.

The antics by the Free State forces will not deter the republican movement in Cork from tackling the drugs issue alongside the community nor will it hamper the 32 County Sovereignty Movement’s work in articulating the republican position in Cork or anywhere else.

We commend our activists for their dedication and hard work in pursuit of the republican goal in 2009. We commend all other republican activists for being true to their beliefs and for being generous and inventive in listening to the beliefs of others. 2009 was a year which witnessed that inventiveness being translated into political action which was widely recognised throughout the republican base. It represented the most potent expression of solidarity with imprisoned comrades. It is solidarity in action with those who were bereaved in the struggle. It is also the way forward for Irish republicanism.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement has a clear vision for the year ahead. The reclamation of our sovereignty must take real form. We must give leadership to our communities to help them achieve this. Throughout Ireland communities have been betrayed by the institutions of faith, finance and state which have long purported to speak and act on their behalf. The abundance of trust placed in the integrity of individual leaders has proved misplaced. They have been left leaderless.

They have not, however, been left powerless. It is in recognition of this reality that the 32CSM will now engage with our communities. In a disciplined approach the 32CSM will liase directly with local communities to explore ways of reclaiming their sovereignty, and under these auspices, help them pursue their political and social objectives. We will focus our efforts in ensuring that all community activity will by default be a pursuit toward national sovereignty. Such a process will be a challenge to both states. It is a first step in filling the vacuum left by those who are now wholly subsumed into the apparatus of partition.

Communities so organised can become the template for national freedom. The republican objective is twofold; to secure our sovereign independence and to organise a just society within that independence. Like our republican forebears we can now enact our aspirations, we can involve our people with our beliefs in real and tangible terms. Republicanism cannot be detached from the people and the people cannot be detached from the strategies deployed to secure their freedom. We can only lead through democratic involvement with our communities.

Because it is a first step it must be taken with due diligence. We have prepared our arguments and are refining our position as mandated at our Ard Fheis. It will be democratic. It will be a learning process which will require discipline, patience and pragmatic political judgement. Republicans cannot interact at a distance. We need to create a new interface between ourselves and our people which will allow us to seek their mandate for our struggle. This mandate will not be measured by a gerrymandered vote. Its value will be in its democratic integrity and its sovereign credentials. For us the ballot box means more than just numbers. Democracy can only be returned to the Irish people when their national sovereignty is recognised.

Because it is a challenge to the state the state will obviously respond. Mistakes will be made, but also learned from, and it is this disciplined approach which will allow for this engagement to spread successfully to other areas. In part the success of this project may be gauged from the state’s reaction to it. They will not be alone. Establishment Nationalists will also have a vested interest in seeing this project fail. They will seek to divide and conquer. But a clear understanding as to the implications of its sovereign distinction and clear democratic practices will thwart them. After all it was disdain for democracy within their own organisations which led them into the cul de sac they now find themselves.

The 32CSM will be active on other fronts. Two major international initiatives will be launched in the coming year. We have observed how issues at play on the international stage are geared toward political events in the occupied six counties. We have made our intentions known to the relevant governments that we are determined to follow a particular path challenging any move that would seek to de-legitimise the republican struggle. These initiatives are for the benefit of Irish republicanism, we will not claim sole ownership of them. But we will provide the leadership that will open up counter arguments for all republicans to employ against these nefarious measures.

Republican unity in 2009 resulted in impressive demonstrations on a range of issues. The continuing media and political demonising of republicans is proof of their effect as is their grudging admission of our growth. The media and political establishment’s objective is to ignore us but through mutual cooperation we have made this impossible. In the coming year this cooperation can be galvanised within our communities as these issues now become their issues in pursuit of our national objectives.

The British Government’s strategy of finally destroying any vestige of republicanism within the provisional movement will not be allowed to undermine the separatist ideal. A resurgent republicanism will demonstrate to both governments and the international community that the destruction of the provisional movement was the liberation of Irish republicanism. It is up to all of us to ensure that 2010 clearly demonstrates this reality.

A chairde, comrades once again we gather at this most historic place dedicated to Con and Jeremiah Delaney to give an account of our efforts in securing the objective for which they gave their lives. This year has seen our movement grow throughout the island. A national recruitment drive was launched with the distribution of thousands of posters throughout the country. This effort has yielded promising results particularly amongst the youth whose participation in the national struggle is an absolute necessity.

In the neighbouring county of Kerry the North Kerry cumann of the Sovereignty Movement has been established. Our national chairperson Francie Mackey gave the oration at the inaugural commemoration of Volunteer Eddie Carmody who, like Con and Jeremiah, gave his life during the same period of our struggle. Once again the Province of Munster has not let us down. This region has an esteemed history in the War for Independence. It has yielded some of the most gifted soldiers and astute republican thinkers. And of course it has yielded its sons and daughters up to the ultimate sacrifice which still inspires us to this day.

On the political front the Sovereignty Movement has been to the fore in advancing progress. Through the Irish Republican Forum for Unity we have joined with other republican comrades in confronting the British government machinery in our country. The policy of normalisation, particularly on the issue of Policing and Justice, has been vigorously challenged. In Derry several attempts to hold meetings of the District Policing Partnerships have been foiled by the combined actions of republicans. The importance of these actions cannot be over emphasised. The Policing Partnerships are the front line bodies for the British government to normalise their policing in our country. We can never allow this to happen and our efforts in Derry need to be exported to other areas where similar Partnerships attempt to meet.

The Unity Initiative has been the catalyst for this success. It is a success that we must build on. It is a success that we will build on. It has reached a stage where the next steps must now be taken. At our recent Ard Fheis the membership mandated the National Executive to put in place political bodies which can take our struggle forward. These bodies are proportional to our political and organisational abilities at this time. They have to be. During the Delaney Brother’s tenure of our national struggle we witnessed the establishment of our National Parliament, the First Dail Eireann. We witnessed this because it was in their gift to establish it. We do not alas possess the ability to mirror that momentous achievement but we do have the political insight to mirror the strategic thinking behind it. We must give our people an alternative as a means of bringing them in to the republican struggle. We have to have mechanisms in place which makes the struggle relevant to their present and their future. The year which lies ahead will be a very challenging one and if republicans can maintain disciplined cooperation it could well mark a watershed in our struggle.

Republicans remain incarcerated in Irish, British and foreign jails. We salute their courage. We do so in tandem with political actions which highlight their plight to the best of our abilities. Again republican cooperation has been indispensable on this front. Successful and most importantly consistent protests have been held to bring to the attention of all those who will listen that Ireland has not been pacified. The conflict cannot be over whilst the conditions which force our men and women into acts of resistance remain. This has always been the case as it was in the time of Con and Jeremiah when the Treaty of 1922 was imposed as a supposed solution. The only solution to this conflict is the establishment of a sovereign democratic Ireland wherein its people can determine the structure and ideological make up of their own government. This is what Con and Jeremiah fought and died for. It is what we strive to achieve, inspired and motivated by their logic and their sacrifice.

We will gather here twelve months from now, let us ensure that we honour the Delaney Brothers and all those like them with reports of positive and dynamic political advancement.

Volunteer Eddie Carmody was born in Moyvane, Co. Kerry and at a very young age moved to Ballylongford to work on a local farm. He was an outstanding Gaelic footballer and an all round athlete. He was a man of great courage, honesty and innate chivalry. He was one of the first local men to join Óglaigh na hÉireann becoming at first the Quarter Master of his local company and then a Lieutenant within the IRA. While on his way to an arms dump outside Ballylongford on the 22nd November 1920, he was ambushed by a patrol of Black and Tans. He was severely wounded after being fired upon several times, but still managed to struggle away a few hundred yards. The Tans following his trail of blood found him after a brief search and dragged him onto the roadway, where he was kicked and beaten with rifle butts. After being stabbed by the soldiers bayonets in a frenzied attack he was shot several times in the face resulting in his death. His body was then put onto a cart and dragged through the village to the local barrack's, where he was left outside in a turf shed till his father collected his body the following day.

Lisbon Treaty Referendum October 2nd 2009

As predicted, and as expected, the people of the Twenty Six Counties face another vote on the already defeated Lisbon Treaty. Following on from the sidestepping of the Dutch and French people’s rejection of the EU Constitution the second referendum being held here is yet further proof that democracy is viewed as a hindrance to the current EU direction. Despite platitudes about different contexts and binding guarantees the true intent of this referendum is to be found in the politics behind it. Fearful of an almost certain rejection of Lisbon in a British Referendum if a change of government were to occur in London the Irish people are being forced to revisit their decision because foreign political opinion deems it expedient to its interests that we do so. It is a mockery of Irish sovereignty on a par with the continuation of partition. Once again the British Government is imposing its will on the outcome of an Irish election.

It is clear that the acceptance of democratic will is deemed less worthy of guarantee by those who sought it, but argued for a different outcome. The so called guarantees issued by the EU Heads Of State are designed to give the illusion of change to justify the calling of a second vote. The Lisbon Treaty remains the same. The so called guarantees are not being voted on. If Lisbon is passed there is no legal prohibition preventing the Heads Of State reconvening afterwards to overturn the so called guarantees. Dublin can veto this of course but that merely amounts to a political promise that they would act in such a fashion. Given that they went to Europe like chastened schoolchildren after the people exercised their veto, there can be no realistic expectation that Dublin will act contrary to the wishes of Brussels.

Because the Lisbon Treaty remains the same our original objections to it remain the same. But the second referendum does open different fronts on which objections to Lisbon can be expressed. Not least of these is the economic crisis. A crisis cannot be resolved by those who created it, employing the same failed ideologies, electing the same failed political elites and endorsing the same failed policies which they are wedded to because of the influence of corrupt bankers and developers. It may well be the better option that this economic crisis can only be resolved by confronting it with a political crisis which has no option but to force change through. It is not acceptable that working people should be subject to periodic bouts of economic boom, followed by economic doom, whilst the architects of it bask in the financial security of massive wages, bonuses and pensions. Small wonder that it is from these quarters that passing Lisbon is most cherished.

Equally, there exists a mindset in the Twenty Six County body politic that holds that financial failure and misdoing should be rewarded as opposed to being punished. The banks acted wholly irresponsibly yet are rewarded for same. State appointees, part of the crony culture, who viewed the public purse as a slush fund for extravagant living, are excused with massive remuneration packages form the very same public purse they abused in the first place. This is the political mindset which boasts of having been involved in the negotiations which gave us the Lisbon Treaty.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement calls on the people of the Twenty Six Counties to remain firm in their rejection of Lisbon. We say that there is a consequence for saying No which confirms that a No Vote can effect change if the political will exists to do so. If that will does not exist, then that too must be changed.

Justice seen to be done in the case of Munster Republicans.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement welcome the fact that justice appears to have been served after three judges sitting at the Special Criminal Court ruled that four Republicans from the province of Munster could not be retried on charges that were quashed last May .
Not content with this application of justice the Director of Public Prosecutions, no doubt guided by voices on high, sought to have the four men, Ciaran O Dwyer, Gerard Varian, John Murphy, Aidan O Driscoll and a fifth man, Ultan Larkin who also had the charges of membership of Óglaigh na hÉireann Quashed last may, retried on the same charges. All this despite the fact that Aidan O Driscoll spent three years interned on remand in Portlaoise whilst the four other men spent various periods interned and on strict bail conditions for up to five years.
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement believe that there was no grounds to charge these men in the first place in December 2003 and that what they have gone through in the intervening five years is nothing short of serious political harassment and a wholesale attack on their civil liberties. We have no doubt that these charges were an attempt to thwart the legitimate political activity of Republicans in the Munster area which has witnessed growth in the last number of years.
Whilst the 32 County Sovereignty Movement welcome this ruling we do not hold out much hope for the administration of what passes for justice in the 26 counties being applied in an even handed manner where Republicans are concerned. It is worth noting that many other Republicans are still being held on charges of membership which do not require the state to reveal evidence other than the word of a chief superintendent. Such blatantly anti democratic practices are an invitation for serious human rights abuses of Republicans by the state in their defence of and support for Britain’s illegal sovereign claim to the occupied six north-eastern counties of Ireland.

A chairde on behalf of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement I would like to thank you all for attending this years commemoration of Volunteer Dennis Spriggs. Like all republican commemorations we look back to such events for inspiration and guidance as we continue the same struggle today. We take great heart from the fact that Irish men and women were and are ready to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of our country. But we also attend these commemorations to take honest stock of our own efforts and we stand here accountable to all those who went before us. The greatest honour we can do for our patriot dead is to realise the objective for which they died and to achieve this we need to look ever forward.

Dennis Spriggs was executed by British Forces during the War of Independence. British soldiers were executed by the IRA during the same conflict, the cause of which remains with us to this day. But more importantly what we have also inherited from that period of the conflict is the flawed approach of how we resolve it. Treaties which usurp our national sovereignty are unworkable because they deny the Irish people their fundamental right to determine our own destinies. The so called Stepping Stone Treaty of 1922 took three quarters of a century to move to the next step with the signing of the Good Friday Agreement but that was a step backwards for Irish Freedom. Partition has been copper fastened.

It is to positive steps forward that republicans must now concentrate on. The Republican Unity Initiative represents such a move. Recognising the limitations of our abilities and seeking the cooperation of other republican groupings has laid the foundations for the growth of Irish Republicanism. In realistic and pragmatic terms we have addressed the constitutional status quo which has allowed us to set attainable goals and work together towards achieving them. Crucially we have made this process an open and democratic one because we have learned the hard way of the effects of elitist leaderships acting in secrecy. We have begun a continuing series of public meetings to give our views and listen to the views of the people.

In the current economic crisis, the product of capitalism, we are mindful of the words of James Connolly, "If you remove the English army tomorrow and hoist the Green Flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organisation of the socialist republic your efforts would be in vain. England would still rule you. She would rule you through her capitalists, through her landlords, through the whole army of commercial-industrial institutions she has planted in the country and watered with the tears of our mothers and the blood of our martyrs. England would rule you to your ruin."

Those that would tell us that the conditions of Connolly’s time are not relevant today need to explain why someone who cannot pay a Television License is imprisoned whilst a multitude of Bankers who squandered billions are handsomely rewarded at tax payers expense. Connolly’s assertions on the establishment of the socialist republic remain supremely relevant. But Connolly also realized that to set about establishing the republic sovereign independence had to be achieved. The proofs of this are self evident. We see it in the internment of republicans. We see it in the slavish attitude the Dublin Government displays towards Brussels. We see it in the bail out of the banks and the wealthy developers. We see it in their weasel deference to the Religious Orders who abused our children whose only crime was to be poor. We see it in their refusing to abide by the decision of their own electorate when they comprehensively rejected the Lisbon Treaty. All these wrongs must be righted. And the only realistic way of securing this is to end partition thereby beginning the ending of their political dominance.

Comrades the way forward is to work together. They worked together in 1916 so the template is already made for us. We have a unique vision for a post partition Ireland. Dennis Spriggs saw this also. No man should die for history but we pledge our lives to our future, free and just.

Cork 32 County Sovereignty Movement Harassed in the Occupied Six Counties

Quite recently members of the Cork 32csm traveled within the occupied six counties. The five members parked in a car park in a town and observed two suspicious black cars parked in the area observing them. It was not long before an unmarked car of the British occupational forces had pulled up to inspect the car along with another PSNI/RUC car who's Officers where heavily armed and on high alert. The PSNI/RUC began to ask the members what was there business in this part of the country as if it was suspicious for an Irish man to travel within his own country. After questioning the members of the 32csm the officers drove away leaving the members to there business. The 32csm members began then to drive to there meeting, stopping at a check point on the way. They where quite angry to see Irish people being taken out of their cars and degraded by the British crown forces as they where subject to Interrogation and searches. It was very clear the foreign police force where Intimidating Irish People as they asserted there dominance in everyday life.

The 32csm members then began to travel home. Once again seeing the Union jacks, Loyalist Flags, UVF and UDA flags flying high in the estates and on the roads. As they drove along a road they where told to pull over by an unmarked occupational forces car. They noticed this was the same gang of crown forces who had inspected them earlier. At the same time PSNI/RUC reinforcements had arrived once again heavily armed. The main officer approached the car and told the driver he was to be searched under section 44 of the terrorist act. It is quite shameful that Irish people cannot move within there own country without being harassed, intimidated and labeled terrorists by a totally foreign and Alien Goverment whose presence is totally illegal. The members where instructed to get out of their car and where throughly searched. After being searched they where interrogated as to what was there business traveling in the occupied six counties. One of the RUC/PSNI asked the member what was he planning to do for the evening, the member replied ''To go for a drive and admire our countryside'', the RUC/PSNI man replied ''Half of it anyway''. After the members where degraded in full public view, the car was searched. The 32csm members received a ''Copy of record of personal stop and search/ question vehicle search''. All the while armed PSNI/RUC covered the area quite nervous at the threat of Irish Resistance. Members of the 32csm watched very closely as the PSNI/RUC conducted there search tearing documents out of the car and throwing around the members belongings. The members of the 32csm where extra vigilant as the PSNI/RUC had already been caught planting evidence in 32csm members car in Derry.
Once the search was conducted the 32csm members got in their car and proceeded to drive home. However they where followed for quite some time by an unmarked PSNI/RUC car. The 32csm members where safely out of the shadow of the PSNI/RUC as they crossed the border. On closer inspection of their stop and search copies the two members in the front seats noticed that it stated ''Arrested : Yes , Object Found: Yes, Damage/Injury caused : Yes, clearly incriminating the members had done something wrong. The officers had clearly found nothing incriminating in the car and had no reason to think that the members of the 32csm where doing anything incriminating. After the small taste of British Harassment the 32csm members where truly disgusted at the bullying and constant intimidation by the armed occupational forces upon the Irish Population. The PSNI/RUC's name change has clearly not changed the manor of the crown forces as British foreign rule will always be foreign rule. In recent months the Irish people have been subjected to an ever increasing number of break-ins, arrests and intimidation by these uniformed thugs.

E3 Prison Protest to escalate.

The current protest by republican POW’s on E3 landing in Portlaoise gaol is set to escalate following a ruling that yet another prisoner has been denied temporary release by the Free State department of justice. Last week two republicans prisoners went on a no wash/dirty protest over the politically motivated denial of temporary release, more prisoners were set to follow but an agreement was made between the Irish Prison Service and the Officer Commanding republican POW’s to call a temporary halt to the escalation of the protest in order to see what moves could be undertaken to end the action by the prisoners.
Earlier today the OC of the prisoners informed the IRPWA that the Irish Prison Service had come back empty handed and another prisoner was denied temporary release. It seems that the Department of Justice and the Irish Prison Service are committed to the policy of confronting republican prisoners.
We have been informed that all republican prisoners on E3 will join the protest on Monday. The POW’s had earlier stated that they would stagger men in pairs until the whole landing was on protest, the OC has informed the IRPWA that this is no longer the case as the prisoners now see no merit in this course of action.
The IRPWA call on the entire republican family to support the men in their protest and to support the IRPWA in a series of protests they are now planning, we thank those republican comrades who have already come out in support of the POW’s.
The Department of Justice and the Irish Prison Service are making a grave mistake if they think they can call these man’s bluff and they are guilty of a gross underestimation of the Óglaigh na hÉireann POW’s resolve.

Protest on E3 Portlaoise Goal.

It is with great regret that the IRPWA call upon the republican family to once again support POW’s in their protest against the blatant injustice of the Prison system in Ireland.
The IRPWA have been tasked by the republican POW’s to state how and why this protest has occurred and to clarify the facts of this protest.
A protest is currently underway on E3 Portlaoise due to the suspension of the temporary release (TR) and compassionate release (CR) programmes. It is the belief of the POW’s that this has happened due to IRA actions in the occupied six counties, indeed the Irish Prison Service have indicated this much and one of their spokespersons has even asked the OC of E3 if he ‘Believed in the border’!
The situation at present is as follows: Two republicans prisoners (Vinny Kelly and Justin McCarthy) are currently involved in a no wash/dirty protest, NOT on the blanket as some have suggested. At intervals republican POW’s will join this protest until the whole landing is on protest , at this stage the protest will escalate.
The Irish Prison Service representative and the Governor have asked the Officer Commanding to reconsider the POW’s stance pending talks with the Free State government, the only concession the POW’s have been willing to make at this stage is to delay further men joining the protest for a short period to give them a chance to resolve the issue. It is the understanding of the IRPWA that this window of opportunity is fast closing and we would urge all those involved in the Free State government and the Irish Prison Service to make strenuous efforts to resolve this intolerable situation as soon as possible.

A chairde, there are those who would say we are traitors gathered here to commemorate the actions of traitors. Pearse and Connolly were deemed to be traitors because the British trenches in the Somme were filled with Irishmen deceived into thinking that fighting in the imperial slaughter of the First World War would lead to Home Rule. Pearse and Connolly said it wouldn’t, and they were right, but still they were vilified and executed. Ninety three years later republicans once again state that the Home Rule strategy will not deliver Irish freedom. Calling us traitors for saying so from the steps of Stormont, flanked by Britain’s head policeman in Ireland, proves we are also right. We are immensely proud to share the views of Pearse and Connolly.

Once again British soldiers are being killed on Irish soil. Once again British soldiers are using Irish soil to train to kill in foreign wars. Once again establishment nationalists have moved to support the British regime in Ireland. Nothing has changed. Claiming that unity will be achieved by 2016 is similar to the deception employed to lure men to their deaths in the fields of Flanders in the lost hope of securing Home Rule. Nothing has changed here either. The men and women of 1916 fought for fundamental change. They were not reformists, but Irish separatists who articulated the basic republican message that our sovereignty is inalienable and indefeasable.

This year also marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the First Dail Eireann. The First Dail was the Proclamation in action. It was an Irish parliament of, by and for the Irish people. It declared our independence to the world and set about a radical social programme to cherish all of the children equally. It remains our blueprint for the future of our country and our people.

Our history is one of conflict because too often our history has been repeated. Political arrangements which usurp Irish sovereignty cannot lead to peace or freedom. Inherent in these arrangements is the attempted suppression of those who seek to defend our sovereignty. They murder us. They hang us. They intern us. They intimidate us. They malign us. It represents that familiar colonial chorus, ever desperate to maintain itself. Trading civil rights in return for recognition of foreign rule condemns our children to fight for that most basic of rights, their own freedom. The men and women of 1916 were not fooled or bought by the trappings of Home Rule nor intimidated by the forces of Westminster and her Irish lackeys. For them democracy meant more than an opinion poll rating or a gerrymandered election. The voice of the people can only be heard if it is freely expressed.

And this is the message which republicans need to articulate today. As republicans we need to put before the people our framework from within which Irish democracy can function without external impediment. We need to set our case against British occupation in a way which is relevant to our people’s needs today. Our aims cannot be solely the product of the past nor can they be a slave to that past. British reasons for remaining in Ireland will change according to modern British interests and republican strategies opposing these interests must adapt accordingly. But in doing so we cannot repeat the failures of history by compromising the legitimacy of our position for the appearance of short term gain. The British have no right to be here and our right to resist them is a matter for us to determine and not them.

We are constantly asked; what is your alternative? The answer depends on who is asking the question. To those who call us traitors we say; any alternative but yours. To those who call us anti democratic we say; let us negotiate without pre conditions. To those republicans who genuinely seek an alternative we say; let us construct one together. We must be clear that the Good Friday Agreement represents a significant defeat for republicanism. And in the face of this we need to be pragmatic and not reactionary. Recrimination is not an alternative. Working constructively together is. Along with other republican comrades the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has engaged in an initiative to forge a way forward from a unified republican position. The ideology behind it is the ideology of necessity. All republican banners are welcome because all republican banners are needed.

How we engage with the Irish people is as important as what we engage them on. From the outset the truth of what we say will be judged by the strength by which we say it. Eloquence and emotion are no substitutes to a unified voice. The politics of conflict resolution requires clarity to ensure that any resolution is just and democratic. Armed conflict is in existence because such a resolution has not been entered into. Neither republicans nor the British government can invoke the existence of armed conflict as an excuse not to engage in a process to find a final democratic resolution to the Anglo Irish conflict. We have to deal with reality as it is and not how we wish it to be.

Standing here in commemoration of 1916 let us invoke the clarity of the Proclamation as we now address the British government today. You must leave Ireland. If, as you say, you have no selfish, strategic or economic reasons for remaining in Ireland then there is no excuse for you not to leave. There is no problem in Ireland which demands your presence that the Irish people themselves cannot resolve. If you require a framework to allow you to disengage from our country we will construct one for you. But for this to happen you must go before the international community and renounce your claim to sovereignty over the Six Counties. A claim of sovereignty represents the bedrock of any strategic interest so let this be the basic test of your intentions.

We call on all republicans to realign ourselves around the securing of achievable aims. We have set forth a programme to rebuild the republican movement through political advancement. We have proposed that commemorating 1916 should be the annual barometer by which we measure our success especially in the run up to its centenary in 2016. Irish republicanism must be in a position on the occasion of this centenary to tell the Irish people that concrete political gains have been made toward making national reunification an unstoppable reality. The Proclamation is too important a document to condemn it to perpetual aspiration.

The Unity Initiative is the only realistic way forward. Armed struggle is a reality in our midst. We must address it for what it is, a symptom of the unwillingness of the British government to engage on the core cause of conflict, namely, its illegal claim to sovereignty over part of our country. For those who want armed struggle to cease they must come forward with proposals to address its cause. The politics of condemnation is a failed irrelevancy just as British micro Ministers are sitting in Stormont. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement have endeavoured since its formation to put such proposals into the public domain.

We sought a peaceful alternative through the auspices of the United Nations only to have that route disbarred to us when the US authorities, acting on influence from London and Dublin, banned our organisation from travelling there. But we are not deterred by this and efforts are underway to petition the Obama administration to reverse this policy. Because contrary to previous declarations made there, Ireland is not at peace.

We have sought dialogue with both governments, unionist and nationalist parties in an attempt to seek a peaceful way forward but these offers have been largely ignored. We thank all those who worked toward achieving this. And we say it again now; if you truly believe our position is so flawed come and tell us how, rather than grandstanding on media soap boxes. Our door remains open and we will not stop knocking on yours.

Comrades, the template of 1916 remains supremely relevant for us today. It was republican unity which drafted the Proclamation and allowed for the accommodation of its diverse views so magnificently. It was republican disunity which led to that fateful confusion on that day. They have given us the benefit of their foresight and the lessons of their errors. Let us leave here today all the wiser for both.

Easter Statement From the leadership of the Irish Republican Socialist Movement

Comrades

We send greetings first of all to the families and friend of our dead INLA volunteers and our dead comrades from the IRSP killed for their political beliefs. We send greetings and solidarity to all our comrades currently imprisoned for their political activities.

We remember all those who in the latest phase of the struggle for liberation from the yolk of imperialism fell in the struggle. And we salute the memory of all republicans of whatever hue who died in the struggle for the self-determination of the Irish people.

Easter is a time, when all over Ireland and in parts abroad, Irish republicans gather to pay homage to our dead and to renew our resistance. It is also a time to take stock, to re-evaluate where we stand and to ask where stands the struggle for an independent Irish Republic?

Comrades if truth be told the struggle has suffered a severe set back over these last years. Consider the enemies who face us. A foreign power, a native government of appeasers in the South and in the North a puppet administration in cahoots with MI5, the PSNI and supporting the most repressive laws we have ever seen.

Those, who sold the Good Friday Agreement as an advance for Irish republicanism, sold a lie. It was a defeat.

However it would be a mistake to simply jump up and down and bemoan the mistakes of the past or dwell on what others did or did not do.

Do we, the Republican Socialist Movement learn from our past? Do we the Republican Socialist Movement have a strategy and a determined path to follow? Yes we do!

We have clearly set out our position on the type of resistance we believe should be followed by Republicans in this day and age. That is why we have worked for Republican political unity with other organisations.

The IRSP is part of the Republican Forum for Unity. We encourage all republican socialists to give their full support to the activities of the Forum. Where we can work on issues together we will.

We say as we have been saying for years that the road forward is the political road. We do not mean the road to Stormont and the pleasures of administering power for the British. We do not mean the path to the Dail and the pleasures of administering power on the behest of the native bourgeoisie and foreign capital.

We mean the political road of revolution, of the transformation of the two states in Ireland the seizing of power from the capitalist elites, the taking back from the robber barons the land resources, the economic resources and wealth that rightly belongs to the whole of the people on the island.

We recognise that the continuation of partition is a block to the well being of all citizens on the isle. It perpetuates sectarian bitterness turning neighbour against neighbour, stifles our economic well-being and allows the continued social and economic exploitation of the working class regardless of religion or race.

No body should be happy to see peace walls in Belfast City or else where dividing neighbour from neighbour. Those walls are a clear indictment of the failure of British rule. They are an indictment of Stormont rule. They shout loudly that the Northern state is a failed state.

No one should be in the least surprise therefore that the continued existence of a failed state perpetuates a violent reaction. There will always be republicans who are prepared to take up arms to resist. That should surprise no one. It is entirely predictable.

Generations have come and gone and seen violence, communal strife, repression discrimination unemployment, emigration and poverty. History worldwide shows that these things breed the conditions for armed resistance.

But simply wishing it away will not change that. Nor will it be changed by righteous anger, by emotion or by the trusted and tried and failed methods of the past.

Irish republicanism needs a new direction. All around we see the proliferation of splinter groups evolving from what used to be the Provisional Republican Movement. We do not rejoice in division. That is why we advocate and support a broad front policy of –co-operation with others. Renewed republicanism is in the overall interests of the vast majority of the people on the isle.

But renewed republicanism must take into account the wishes and needs of the people
In a time of severe attacks on the living standards of the working people throughout the island Republicanism cannot stand aside and think only of a pure Republic unrelated to the existing social and economic conditions.

We believe that the best way forward for Irish republicanism is to totally embrace the socialist ideal and for Irish republicans to throw themselves fully into the day-to-day struggles of the people. The building of a mass movement of working people to change the world we live in is our best chance of success.

And it needs to be side loud and clear from this and all republican platforms that the political struggle for a Socialist Republic holds no threat to those who see themselves as coming from different traditions.

Part of our task is to convince and reach out to those who we have failed to persuade as to the validity of our beliefs. That is why we in the republican socialist movement will take all opportunities to reach out and influence sections of the protestant working class of the validity of our socialist ideas.

We applaud the tremendous work carried out by our members and ex-prisoners in Teach na Failte in the work they do in working class areas bring working people of differing backgrounds together. That is real republicanism. That’s what Tone, Mitchell, Connolly Mellows and Costello stood for.

That is the Republicanism to take away with you today from these hallowed grounds. We are resolutely opposed to Imperialism. We are resolutely opposed to Capitalism. But, we are resolutely for working class unity and against sectarianism.

Comrades, we have, as a movement faced death.

Comrades, we have as a movement faced imprisonment.

Comrades, we have as a movement faced slander lies and informers and traitors.

Comrades we have as a movement faced the might of Imperialism and we have not flinched.

Nor will we flinch no matter what they throw at us.

We stand today at these graves unbowed and as determined today as when we were formed, to stand by the Socialist Republic.

Early on the morning of April 23rd. 1921, six members of 'C' Company, First Battalion, Cork No. 1 Brigade were massacred by a party of Black and Tans and RIC at a farm at Ballycannon, Clogheen, just outside Cork city. They had been Discoverd Sleeping in a Barn and then rounded up and shot. The Owner of the Barn Cornelius O'Keeffe had seen what had happened and swore that the sixth man was actually brought away alive and blindfolded. The area around Blarney Street, from where the men all came, was staunchly republican and many families had more than one member involved in the struggle.

End The Conflict, End British Rule In Ireland

If the conflict in Ireland is to end once and for all, so too must the illegal British claim to sovereignty over the Six Counties. That has been made clear in light of the violent events of recent days. That the so called peace process failed to openly address this central core issue of conflict is the reason for its failure now. Attempts to cocoon the problem in a puppet British Assembly arguing along sectarian lines are doomed to failure. From the outset of this process the British government have moved to defend their illegal sovereign claim to Irelands territory. This was evident when they made it an absolute pre-condition that the entry fee into negotiations was the acceptance of a partitionist outcome. Once republican leaders acquiesced to this British demand the republican project within that process was doomed. As it limped from crisis to crisis its British and unionist credentials began to assert themselves. What also emerged was the clear fact that rather than accept their abject defeat in negotiations with the British, republican leaders dug deeper into the morass whilst making outlandish and unsustainable claims about achieving Irish unity by certain dates to keep supporters on board. It was a classic British trap. This British strategy has now reached its pinnacle with a Provisional Sinn Fein leader standing at Stormont, under the British flag, as a minister of the British crown, calling IRA Volunteers ‘traitors’ for continuing to resist British occupation.

We note the ritual chorus of condemnation emanating from Leinster House. Far from reflecting a unity of purpose it represents a bankruptcy of will from that institution to pursue the objective of a Sovereign Irish Republic. From its inception Leinster House abandoned the Irish people in the Six Counties. It abandoned them further under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement. It evolved a politics which made it a slave to vested interests. It is economically on its knees because of financial and political corruption at the highest level. It has selectively spurned its own referenda results because it lacked the courage to represent those results to the political elite in Europe. It is no position to lecture to anyone on any matter of substance.

From its inception the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has endeavored to place the issue of Irish National Sovereignty at the heart of the political process via peaceful methods. We sought to raise our concerns by pursuing our case at the United Nations only to have that peaceful route disbarred to us when London and Dublin petitioned Washington to have our organization declared illegal in the US. We petitioned all the main parties with detailed submissions but were met with silence. We sought peace. We seek peace, but we recognise clearly that this can only be achieved if true parity is brought to a negotiations process. Britain’s claim to have ‘no selfish, strategic or economic reasons’ to remain in Ireland is laid bare when one sees its use of Irish soil to train and dispatch British soldiers to kill in foreign wars. The British are not neutral in Ireland, no more than they are in Afghanistan or Iraq. To allow them to claim this, which the Good Friday Agreement does, represents a massive abdication of duty and responsibility by all those supposed nationalists who support it. The recent loss of life as a result of military action is yet another tragedy in the continuing conflict in Ireland. What is required to resolve it is an end to British Parliamentary activity in Ireland so that the people of the island can come to their own democratic arrangements as to how we govern ourselves.

On behalf of the National Executive I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all our activists who campaigned so effectively for our goals during 2008. I choose the word effectively deliberately as I believe certain milestones in Irish republicanism were achieved during the past year. At the outset let me address the realities of our struggle by welcoming home the Derry 4 but in equal breath call for the immediate release of Terry McCafferty, Michael Campbell and all incarcerated Irish republicans. If ever a set of circumstances so described the nature of justice under partition it is these which do so with the greatest clarity. Partition is maintained by the establishments on either side of it which makes our struggle a thirty two county affair. A protest in Kerry is no less important than a protest in Belfast and in our efforts to build our organisation this is the message we must bring with us.

Our organisation has grown in 2008. We have reached into new areas and attracted new people who share our strategic vision. 2009 must see the Sovereignty Movement consolidate this growth and give it firm political leadership. The effective activism I speak of was visible in a number of areas;

A mature campaign for a No Vote against Lisbon.
The sustained protests on Prisoner issues.
The establishment of the Irish Republican Forum For Unity.

Our efforts at securing a No Vote in the Lisbon referendum were based on ensuring that the issue of Sovereignty and Partition were at the heart of our strategy. In doing so we made it clear that all issues of national relevance, be they concerned with natural resources or national heritage, can only be addressed in the context of National Sovereignty and that a resolution of one must contain a resolution of all. Sovereignty cannot be sub-divided.
Our comrades in the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association facilitated our activists in holding protests and demonstrations concerning imprisoned Irish Republicans. We point to the successful intervention in the Aidan Hulme case and the release of the Derry 4. But the cases of Terry McCafferty and Michael Campbell loom large and require similar attention to secure similar outcomes. We send solidarity greetings to all imprisoned republicans but we will do so through continued activism on their behalf.

After long and searching debate the Unity Initiative bore fruit with the formal establishment of The Irish Republican Forum For Unity. At its inaugural meeting in Derry City the republican base could finally see the unity idea transformed into political action on an inclusive basis. A series of public meetings have been planned throughout 2009 to bring the Unity Forum to different areas so that the broad republican base can be instrumental in forging its political activity. The 32CSM will remain fully engaged with the Unity Forum and have proposals prepared to put to it for the coming year.
2009 will see us once again confronted with the Lisbon issue. Those who make the repeated charge that republicans should respect the ‘democratic’ wish expressed in the dual referendums on the Good Friday Agreement should have their hypocrisy thrown back at them. A second referendum will have the added issue of its democratic nature and once again the 32CSM will campaign to ensure that this undemocratic premise and that of Partition itself will be seen as one. Our analysis of the re-run Nice Treaty convinced us that only a Yes vote will satisfy the Dublin Government and having anticipated the inevitability of a second poll we had begun our preparations for our campaign soon after the No victory. I take this opportunity to formally launch ‘Countdown To Lisbon II’ as our effort in the forthcoming campaign. It will be a campaign which will focus on our original objections to Lisbon and also on the status of a second referendum as it relates to our National Sovereignty. We will also campaign for a No Vote by highlighting the extraordinary corruption and social bankruptcy of the Twenty Six Counties political and financial classes as it tries to convince the people that a treaty hewn from the same bankruptcy is in our best interests.

2009 will not see the ending of Partition. Neither will 2016. These are the realities which face us and they need to be recognised by all republicans. However, this does not mean that 2009 and 2016 cannot witness political achievements that will help us secure this objective. Acting within our limitations and acting together to reduce those limitations can greatly enhance our prospects to once again place the republican position back onto the national agenda. Wallowing in the past or afraid to grasp nettles is the stuff of cul-de-sac politics. There is no need to reinvent the republican wheel but we do need to reinvent ways and means by which our core message is given the weight of political activity behind it. We view the Unity Forum as one such means and we strongly urge that all republican groups engage with it so that 2009 can become a watershed in our history.

I wish to break with tradition by honouring our fallen dead with the deeds we now do in their name. Last year we spoke in reverence about Con and Jeremiah Delaney and the sacrifices they made for Irish freedom. But the greatest homage we can pay to that sacrifice is through our own actions to achieve the same objective. Annual commemorations should no longer be seen as pilgrimages to the past but as barometers to measure the effectiveness of current republican activity. Each commemoration should hear the progress we have made since the last one and if we have no progress to report we do a disservice to those whom we gather to honour.

As Pearse once said of the Irish language, the greatest compliment you can pay it is to speak it. The same goes for honouring our dead. Eloquent eulogies are no substitute for solid political and other activity. And today I want to state that from this point on the sole purpose of standing at this spot is to outline what solid political activity we have managed to further the cause of our freedom. I am pleased to state that for both Con and Jeremiah and those assembled here a positive report can be given.
We stated last year that we cannot dwell on the past as a means to shape the future. Our future is in the hands of the living and not the dead. For the last number of years the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has been engaged in a process to bring about a framework for republican unity. We started with a debate, which progressed to a proposal which has progressed to a realisation. Last month in Derry City the first meeting of the Irish Republican Forum for Unity was held. Despite many obstacles common ground was established to allow different republican groups to come together to democratically work out agreed programmes for political action. Ourselves, the Irish Republican Socialist Party, the Republican Network For Unity and Independent Republicans shared a public platform and set out our preliminary positions before the republicans of Derry. We heard their views and they heard ours in what will be a series of such meetings to be held throughout the 32 Counties.

What we made clear from the start is that this initiative can only succeed if it follows two important rules:

1. It is not a talking shop.

2. It must produce agreed political activity.

If we look at ourselves realistically, and if we are honest to Con and Jeremiah, we can only conclude that at this juncture in our struggle republican unity is the only way forward. There are no guarantees of success, but a static approach will certainly guarantee continued failure. We do not profess to have all the answers, but we do have political ideas and we have every right to try them just as Con and Jeremiah tried theirs. We have learned from them and we now wish to put that learning into practice. We have taken a major step forward and please God whoever amongst us who stands here in twelve months time will be outlining what the second and third steps were also. We wish that process well.

The year also saw the Sovereignty Movement engaged in the campaign against the Lisbon Treaty. What we lacked in practical resources we made up for with originality and inventiveness. We viewed the Lisbon Campaign as a means to highlight the British violation of our national sovereignty an issue the main protagonists dare not touch. We utilised the emergence of new 32CSM Cumainn to bring our message to a wider audience throughout the state. We learned of the importance of the European Debate as it concerns our own struggle. We have demonstrated that a unified approach to such issues can yield greater results for the republican struggle. And what is becoming clearer is that the Lisbon Campaign will once again have to be fought as the powers that be show complete disdain for the votes of the people. The 32CSM was ready for the first campaign. With commitment the Republican Unity Initiative will be ready for the second.

We have repeatedly said that 2016 must be a target date for republican achievement. This year, for the first time in our history, a national republican socialist Easter Commemoration marched to the G.P.O. Another major first step. And like standing here a commitment was given on the steps of the G.P.O that each year would see a determined effort toward securing political gain so that we could stand there on the centenary of 1916 and not merely lament on another glorious failure. That is the mindset of those who have no concept of securing real progress. But to achieve this we need to build, We need to recruit. We need to engage and we need to be honest.

The Delaney Brothers are an inspiration to us and for this we thank them. We have our patriot dead. We have our imprisoned comrades. We have our committed activists. And to them all I say; we also have our priorities right.

Vigilance Urged Over Garda Tactics

The Finbarr Walsh Cumann of the 32CSM have urged republicans to be on their guard concerning a recent Garda tactic to enter a republican’s home without a search warrant. At approximately 12 noon on Tuesday the 25th November a telephone call was made to the home of a member of Cork 32CSM. When answered an unidentified male voice informed the household that a garda search would be taking place of the house because they believed ‘firearms were on the premises’. Dismissing it as a prank call the republican was duly surprised when five minutes later two plainclothes gardai arrived demanding to carry out a search because they believed ‘firearms were on the premises’. As they attempted to enter the republican stood firm and demanded to see a search warranted. The two gardai informed him that they had none but would be back in five minutes with the relevant documents. Instead the two gardai sat outside for almost two hours monitoring the house before they left. This rather bizarre incident once again highlights the illegal lengths to which gardai will go to harass and intimidate republicans. Cork 32CSM commends the vigilance of our member and urges all other republicans to educate themselves as to their legal rights in these matters.

POSITIVE OUTCOME TO AIDAN HULME CAMPAIGN

The Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association (IRPWA)welcome the latest development in the Aidan Hulme campaign whereby the Prison Governor in Portlaoise Gaol has agreed with the prisoners and Aidan that the OC and Adjutant will be allowed access to accompany Aidan when he is visited by a doctor or when visited by the Governor.

Today (15/10/08) such a visit took place and it is confirmed that gangrene is not present in Aidan’s foot rather the symptoms are a result of a severe infection for which Aidan is now being treated.

Staff from the hospital will now visit Aidan to clean the infected areas of his foot and renew dressings to prevent further spread of infection.

An assurance is also given that Aidan will have a consultant assessment before the end of the month and an agreed care plan is being implemented and developed. This will allow for a proper consultant led care management package.

This positive and jointly agreed approach to Aidan’s welfare will ensure early intervention in the event of deterioration and will allow for continuous monitoring of his condition.

The negative effects of the medication will also be closely monitored and with Aidan’s agreement can be reduced depending on his individual needs at any given time.

The IRPWA on behalf of the POW’s would like at this time to thank most sincerely the many people who moved to support Aidan in his time of need and to those who sent greetings.

We would like to extend this thanks to other republican organisations who pledged their support and advice to ensure that Aidan received immediate professional intervention.

Aidan is indeed most grateful for all the support he has received and extends his heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved.

COMMEMORATION SUNDAY 6TH JULY 2008 TO REMEMBER VOLUNTEER DENNIS SPRIGGS MURDERED BY BRITISH FORCES

Oration Delivered by Francis Mackey, National Chairman 32 County Sovereignty Movement.

Friends, Comrades, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is indeed a great honour to be here in the Rebel County to join with you to remember Denis Spriggs who was taken from his home at midnight and murdered at this spot by British forces on the 8th July 1921 and I pay tribute to everyone involved in ensuring that such sacrifices are never forgotten.

Dennis Spriggs lied about his age so that he could join the IRA. At 16 years of age he volunteered his services to the national liberation struggle and like countless others of his kind suffered hardship as a result. Forced on the run and into an uncertain life he continued on active service. Whilst visiting his Mother his presence was betrayed by a neighbour and at once his fate was sealed. And for that act of informing the neighbours fate was sealed also.

Just imagine it, 87 years ago, the home of this young republican, the door smashed in, the family wakened by the occupying British. Just imagine the terror, fear and intimidation this family felt as their young son was picked out and taken away.How must this family have felt and then to discover their son was murdered at this spot.
Step forward 87 years to this present day in the occupied 6 Counties and see the same scenario that has been taking place since our country was illegally partitioned by the British.The same injustice, the same intimidation, the same murder, the same knock on the door, the same British agents and the same British rule updated with special powers to discriminate against Nationalists and republicans and to treat us as criminals.That same policy of criminalization is present and active today not alone in the occupied region but across the nation.In 1921 the British murdered at will anyone who opposed their rule in our country.

Today murder is replaced with corrupt laws, intimidation and harassment by British police in Ireland and upheld by the establishment parties in Stormont and administered at the point of the British gun.The Dublin administration has joined forces with the British to implement the same policies; Internment By Remand, whereby a so called suspect can be arrested and placed in gaol with a false charge based on the perjured word of a senior Garda.Is this really any different from the 8th July 1921 when Denis Spriggs was taken out of his home and murdered?

The families of POW’s in Portlaoise and Maghaberry are suffering the same anguish, the same fear and the same thoughts as the Spriggs family on that fateful night.The policy is the same, it is designed to criminalize the republican struggle just as the murder 87 yrs ago was designed to do.Sadly the Dublin crowd has acquiesced to the British pressure and has abandoned the people in the occupied 6 Counties to British Rule.Now I ask you to cast your minds back to 1921, Denis Spriggs was 19 yrs old. Five years earlier the 1916 rising had taken place, the Proclamation was read outside the GPO in Dublin. A significant document and it became the foundation of modern Irish republicanism. The 1916 leaders were murdered by the British. Denis Spriggs was 14yrs old.Some two years later the Irish people ratified the Proclamation of 1916 at the election of 1918 and on the 21st January 1919 the first Dail declared Ireland’s freedom.

For the first and last time the Irish people as a whole had spoken, they made a democratic decision and declared Ireland a free nation, free from British rule.The Declaration of Independence, another truly historic and significant document was signed.Imagine for the first time that the Irish people were allowed to vote, this young boy in his native Cork must have been given great faith and hope, hope that now there was a chance after all the decades of suffering that the British government would respect the democratic right of the Irish people and declare their intent to leave Ireland. NOT SO; the British Government refused to recognize the democratic right of the people of Ireland and with the threat of a terrible war denied the Irish people their rights.

Come forward to 1998 and the British negotiations that were taken place with Irish representatives. A great hope was created that now there was a chance the British would in their deliberations declare their intent to leave Ireland and relinquish their illegal sovereign claim to part of Ireland. NOT SO; Those who entered negotiations with the British Government failed again to assert the rights of the Irish people and entered a British agenda which could only lead to an internal settlement with the British Government’s illegal claim fully intact.The British had again outflanked the Irish negotiators and as written in Jonathan Powell’s book, Tony Blair and his team couldn’t stop laughing on the way back to London at how easy the leaders of the Provisional Movement agreed the way forward based on the British agenda.Going back to the era of Denis Spriggs. On the 10th May 1921 the First Dail now not recognized by the British held what was to be its last meeting. 59 days later British forces continued to give their response to the Irish people when they murdered at this spot Vol Denis Spriggs, “C” Company, 1st Batallion of the Cork No 1 Brigade of the IRA. He was barely a man, just 19yrs old. The question I’m sure was asked then just like today what motivates young Irish men and women like Dennis Spriggs to join the IRA.Could anyone really blame a young man for taking the decision he did in the face of a British onslaught when the people of Ireland did not vote for British rule?

His actions were in response to a foreign government who failed to recognize the rights of the people of Ireland to be free, free from foreign domination, free to choose how this great nation should be governed and free from the continued violation of Irish National Sovereignty as outlined in the 1916 Proclamation and in the Declaration of Independence.The role to uphold and protect the sovereignty of the Irish nation was a noble cause through out our history and continues to be so today.It was violated back then by the Home Rule Party, the Pro- Treaty parties and it was and continues to be violated by the parties in Stormont, the modern day equivalent of the Home Rulers.

The 32CSM recognizes the sacrifices of generations in the struggle for freedom who have paid the supreme sacrifice with their lives so that the people of Ireland will one day be free.Today that task is made more difficult because not alone have we to focus on the British Government but our work is being undermined by the lackeys in Dublin Castle and sadly by former comrades who have adopted the Home Rule position and are now directly involved in criminalizing the republican struggle.They are directly involved in assisting British policing in Ireland with their support for an armed British police force made up of Irish men and women who are prepared to wage a British war against their own people.Would the people in 1921 have ever imagined that 87 yrs later their own people would be kicking in doors to arrest Irish men and women whose only fault in their eyes is to oppose British Rule in Ireland? How far the wheel has turned as the British Government continues to use Dublin and Stormont to maintain their illegal sovereign claim.However it has not gone unchallenged for we in the 32CSM had the foresight to lodge a legal challenge against this direction in the United Nations, the body charged with resolving disputes over sovereignty.

We believe that challenge at an international level before the UN is a legitimate way forward to bring to an end to British Parliamentary activity in Ireland.

We recognize we can’t do it on our own and again I reiterate our call for all republicans to get involved in a united approach to tackling the difficulties facing all of us as we address the core cause of conflict in our country.

The republican unity initiative, culminating in a forum for republican unity for Irish unity, is one way to address the common threads of republicanism based on agreement.The Lisbon campaign for the no vote demonstrated how if united the Irish people will respond in a positive way.Lisbon was about the violation of our sovereignty and we believe the protection of our sovereignty cannot be adequately addressed in Brussels if not first and foremost addressed in Westminster.PSF have got caught out again by advocating a no vote on Lisbon whilst actively violating Irish National Sovereignty through the 1998 British agreement.

Denis Spriggs gave his young life upholding the sovereignty of his country, let us never forget it, let the Irish people again rise up just as they done in the Lisbon referendum and reject the violation of our sovereignty.

Together republicans can ensure the death of Denis Spriggs was not in vain, let us move forward as republicans united to end British Rule in Ireland.

Whilst The Occupation Remains, Resistance Remains

The revelations that the people of Derry City are to be petitioned in order to put pressure on Anti Agreement Republican Separatists to disband is disingenuous in the extreme and smacks not only of political opportunism but also no small measure of desperation.

It is clear that those behind this political stunt are using the understandable anger in the community at the murder of Emmet Sheils to further their own political objectives, namely an end to opposition to support for the RUC/PSNI and the British Administration in Stormont.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement will not be deflected from our political work by such ill conceived political posturing nor will any other Anti Agreement Republican groupings.

Those who have sought to ferment community tensions by deliberately and falsely attributing blame for the murder of Emmet Sheils will be exposed for what they are as will their cynical use of his death for their own narrow agenda. Republicans will not be intimidated from upholding the Republican position and the 32 County Sovereignty Movement are resolute in our intention to continue our work in Derry City and across the nation.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement are attracting disillusioned and disenfranchised Republicans right across Ireland and further a field as are other Republican organisations and the cynical manipulation of this tragic event illustrates how low Pro State Nationalists will go to undermine this growth, they will fail.

We note also the presence of the so called Deputy First Minister in Iraq. Just recently the same Minister greeted the US President to the Six Counties without a whimper of protest from him against the occupation and wholesale slaughter in that country. This reluctance to petition for protest against these blatant injustices is at least consistent with their equal reluctance to petition for protest against other high profile murders here because they do not afford him the same opportunity for cheap political kudos

The Irish Resistance Movement will not be forced to disband and anyone endeavouring to do so is not only naïve but is also acting in a dangerous manner. Attempts to foster a civil war mentality will also fail as all previous attempts have done.

The Finbarr Walsh Cumann of Cork 32 County Sovereignty Commemoration will be holding a Commemoration in memory of IRA Volunteer Dennis J Spriggs who was murdered by British Forces in 1921. It is with a sense of both despair and disgust that the 32CSM in Cork greets the news that former British Premier John Major is to be given the Freedom Of The City for his purported contribution to the so called peace process. Despair for the fact that a former Lord Mayor of Cork gave his life on hunger strike in protest against the British occupation of his country and disgust that such an award is now given to the successor of Margaret Thatcher who displayed equal contempt to Irishmen resorting to hunger strike for the same objective. Has partitionist politics taken such a deep root in the affairs of Cork City that nothing is deemed wrong in offering the Freedom of Cork City to an individual who steadfastly denied the people of Cork City the freedom of their own country? Ireland can never be at peace whilst John Major’s Parliament violates our national sovereignty through its continued activity in our country. The so called peace process has copper fastened partition and those who contributed to it are more deserving of a British Royal bauble for their efforts than they are to the freedom of an Irish city.

Ian Paisley Visit To Cobh.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement would like to clarify the reasons for our protest against the visit of Stormont First Minister Ian Paisley to the Commodore Hotel in Cobh on Friday the 18^th April. We wish to make clear that we are not protesting against the individual but against a man who for years has played a major role in administering British Rule in Ireland. Our motives for protesting are the same as when we successfully protested against the presence of RUC/PSNI Chief Hugh Orde at the Rochestown Hotel in September 2007 as a guest of the Rotary Club.

Mr. Paisleys apparent turn around from his ‘Never, Never, Never’ declaration and ‘Ulster Says No’ stance is evidence in itself that this entire process offers nothing to Irish republicans. It is a process to underpin British Parliamentary activity in our country. It is the embodiment of the Unionist Veto.

In recent years we have become accustomed to the term ‘dissident republicans’ being applied to those who reject the Good Friday and St Andrews Agreements. But we take our lead from the 1916 Proclamation and our Declaration of Independence and are content that we have in no way dissented from their lawful assertions. We say to those who have embraced partition that the title ‘dissident’ belongs to them.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement’s goal is the establishment of a sovereign Irish Republic which would facilitate our right to self determination and allow all of the people of the island to be self governed without external interference. To date successive British governments have failed to recognize Irish sovereignty and this failure remains the cause of conflict in our country. We seek a public declaration from the British government of its intent to leave Ireland completely and permanently.

Bugging And Tracking Device Found

A sophisticated bugging and tracking device has been unearthed in the vehicle of a member of the Dublin 32 County Sovereignty Movement. The device was secreted internally into the dashboard of the vehicle and was equipped with its own self contained power supply. The manner by which the device was installed strongly suggests that those who planted it took considerable time to effect this and was obviously professionally done. The device bears English Manufacturing Labels but as of yet it is uncertain whether it originates from a British, Irish or joint British/Irish intelligence source. Suffice to say that the unearthing of yet another intelligence gathering device clearly illustrates that the war against those who articulate the right of the Irish people to National Sovereignty continues in government(s) circles. The individual 32CSM member involved has sought legal advice on the matter. The 32CSM reiterates our call for all republicans to be diligent in the face of these insidious attempts to undermine the republican struggle. The sight of heavily armed British police manning checkpoints across the occupied six counties is proof that British rule can only be implemented through political policing and force of arms.

In order to protect the illegal six county statelet, the RUC/PSNI are clearly acting in both a political and a military role, roles which nationalists were led to believe during last years policing debates were not acceptable to Provisional Sinn Fein.

Raids across the six counties by the RUC’s special branch, directed by British military intelligence further illustrated the inherently political/military nature of British policing in Ireland.

Martin McGuinness’ feigned ignorance of republican separatist strategy in Dundalk at the North/South ministerial council meeting fails to take into account that heavily armed British military personnel are on our streets backed by a heavily resourced British military intelligence machine.

Anyone who believes that the British Army withdrew the bulk of their forces from Ireland because of a victory for republicans need only look at the events of the last few days and draw their own conclusions.

The operations by the RUC/PSNI are not new to republicans, raids, stop and searches and checkpoints have been ongoing for years but this recent high profile publicity stunt is just visual proof that the British state in Ireland will revert to type if under threat.

That the first and deputy first minister of the British administration in Stormont should call for the public to inform on republican separatists is a predictable reaction from British ministers however due to the ongoing criminalisation policy against republicans we in the 32 County Sovereignty Movement would urge all republican activists to be wary and remain vigilant in the coming days and weeks.

Nationalist Parties Approve British Police Offensive

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement views with deep anger this weeks dramatic upsurge in offensive operations by the British police directed at nationalist districts across the 6 occupied counties. It is clear to us the swamping of working class nationalist housing estates, roads and rural districts in south Armagh, Newry and Derry city since Saturday evening accompanied by low flying helicopters, aggressive searching, patrolling and surveillance by heavily armed British policemen is a direct result of the public statement in the week prior to Christmas by Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and SDLP leader Mark Durkan. These constitutional nationalist political leaders openly criticised the PSNI for failing to arrest and jail republican activists in sufficient numbers, giving the British the green light to pursue its aggressive armed incursions within our communities.

This disgraceful public statement was accompanied by an unprecedented and prolonged campaign of propaganda emanating from the constitutional nationalist media, politicians and British intelligence services seeking to demonise and criminalise republican activists. The nationalist political establishment at Stormont have clearly signalled to the British their support and compliance for offensive operations within republican heartlands. The responsibility for the British forces activities in our districts this week lies as surely with them as it does in MI5's Holywood base.

These counter insurgent operations from Derry to Newry are also clearly not directed at any one group in particular but against working class nationalist and republican communities in general as a show of strength by the British police encouraged and openly egged on by nationalist political leaders. No republican can give their support to this activity by the British forces in Ireland, a foreign occupying force showing its true counter insurgent colours and hostility to traditionally republican working class communities. The PSNIs role is the RUC's and RIC's role - Defence of the Realm and the suppression and criminalisation of all opposition to British state institutions in Ireland. That is the purpose of their invasion of our districts in the last 4 days

We are also mindful that the response of your youth to this armed offensive against their districts by the British police has, as always, not been found wanting. The 32CSM recognise and salute their ongoing resistance to the British forces this week and regard any calls by local politicians for their neighbours to inform on them to the British as utterly despicable. Our youth are our future and their instinctive response to these armed incursions by the British into their districts is a source of pride to many.

We take this opportunity again to make it clear that the republican struggle for national sovereignty will neither be criminalised nor defeated by the British state and its hangers on within the constitutional nationalist political leadership class. The PSNI are a force of British occupation in our country and its is they who are the criminals, not those republicans who oppose their illegal presence and the crime of partition in Ireland. Finally we express our solidarity with those who have been arrested and call on all republicans regardless of party allegiance to stand side by side in comradeship against these attempts to criminalise and subdue not only our struggle but the very communities from which we draw our strength, solidarity and support.

32CSM uncover huge drugs haul in East Tyrone

On Tuesday 29th January a number of members of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement in East Tyrone uncovered a huge cannabis factory in the Kildress area. The members were alerted to the drug factory when they recieved a number of complaints of anti social behaviour in this house and the surrounding area.

On entering the premises the republican activists found a huge amount of cannabis in various stages of growth as well as assorted parapenalia for its cultivation such as vents, heaters and a sprinkler system.

The 32 CSM members took a local priest along in order to witness them uncovering the drugs haul and to leave him to do with that knowledge as he saw fit.

The discovery of such a huge operation by the 32CSM has undoubtedly helped in the fight against criminality and drugs in this rural area and we commend our members for their actions. We also urge anyone with information on drug dealing and anti social behaviour to contact the 32 County Sovereignty Movement.

Reject Criminalisation

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement urge all republicans to support a protest against criminalisation planned for Saturday 26^th January at the offices of The Irish News 113-117 Donegal Street Belfast at 3pm.

A dangerous new trend has developed in recent weeks whereby some elements within the media have attempted to criminalise those republicans who have rejected the British administration in Stormont. The Irish News has been particularly active in this new role as MI5 mouthpieces rather than an impartial representative of nationalist opinion. The editorial team in this once credible paper have taken to their new role with great relish to the point of publishing outlandish stories supposedly taken from unnamed and unsubstantiated ‘sources’ and then refusing Irish Republican Separatists any print space in order to counter these ludicrous creations.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement believe that it is imperative that the actions of The Irish News do not go unchallenged as it is our opinion that such attempts at criminalisation are a pre cursor to a new crackdown on anti agreement republicanism.

This crackdown has been called for by the main nationalist parties through the pages of this paper and this line has been faithfully parroted by Irish News editorials.

As it is clear that no republican in Ireland can receive a fair trial and that the British intelligence services and their agents are up to their necks in attempting to frame republican separatists we would ask the Irish News how exactly republicans should be dealt with?

The Irish News has put itself firmly on the side of the British political administration in Ireland, not alone by attempting to recruit young nationalists in to the British army and police through their situations vacant pages but also by putting themselves and some of their staff at the disposal of the British security services.

The Irish News must be in a position to prove the veracity of their stories and we call on them to do so. We also call on them to cease their practise of adopting a partisan political position in defence of the British administration in Ireland and to give republican separatism a right to reply to criminalisation attempts emanating from MI5.

These are issues which impact upon all republicans not just those within the 32 County Sovereignty Movement as it is not just our organisations that are being criminalised but the whole republican separatist position.
