Con and Jeramiah Delany were members of the IRAs F Company, 1st battalion, Cork No.1 brigade. As Cork city was being burned down and looted by the British, a lorry load of men with english accents arrived at there home and forced there way inside there house and up to their bedrooms. The brothers jumped out of bed and were asked by a man with an English accent if there names were Delany. After replying yes, both brothers were shot on the spot. It was alleged a cap had been left behind during an IRA ambush in Dillions cross and hounds used the caps scent to lead to the brothers home. Con was brought to the Mercy hospital and died a number of days later on the 18th of December.
